There is no single price for diesel injector repair. It depends on the injector, how many need work and what is wrong with them. This guide explains what moves the cost, so you can compare quotes properly. We do not publish a price list, because the right figure depends on your injector. Send us the details at the end of this page and we will give you a straight answer.
What decides the cost of injector repair or replacement
- The injector itself. Bosch, Delphi, Denso and Siemens/Continental injectors are different designs, and the work involved differs between them.
- How many injectors need work. One worn injector is a smaller job than a full set.
- What is worn. A bench test shows what each injector needs, whether that is new nozzles, control valves or seals.
- Exchange or repair of your own units. We offer both. With an exchange a refundable core deposit applies.
- Coding. A new or rebuilt injector needs its code entered into the engine computer with a diagnostic tool, which your garage may charge for.
- Fitting. Labour at your garage depends on the engine and how easy the injectors are to reach. It is the same whether the injector going back in is new or reconditioned.
- Small parts. A worn injector sealing washer can let combustion gases leak past the injector, so it is worth getting right at the same time.
Why testing comes first
Not every rough-running diesel needs a full set of injectors. A bench test measures resistance, nozzle opening pressure, spray pattern, delivery rates and backleak for each injector, so you know which ones are at fault. Without a test you risk paying for injectors that were fine, or missing the real cause. At Top Injectors the testing charge is credited if we rebuild the injectors. See our diesel injector testing page.
Reconditioned or new OEM injectors
Once the test finds the fault, a rebuild strips the injector completely, replaces the worn parts and calibrates it on the test bench. This is typically significantly cheaper than buying new OEM injectors, and you still get a tested unit with a warranty. Ours carry 12 months. More on our reconditioned diesel injectors page.
Check the cause before you pay twice
If injectors failed because a failing high-pressure pump sent metal particles through the fuel system, the system needs flushing before new injectors go in. Otherwise the contamination goes straight to the replacements. Read why metal contamination from a pump matters, and ask any garage or supplier whether this has been checked.
What to ask when you compare quotes
- Was each injector tested, and do you get a report?
- Is coding included, or do you have to arrange it?
- Is the injector new, reconditioned or used, and what warranty comes with it? Ours is 12 months on reconditioned injectors and a 30-day start-up warranty on used injectors with test confirmation.
- Is there a core deposit, and is it refundable?
- Does the price cover fitting, or only the part?
